with Node.js 18. Avoid use of `import.meta.dirname`, which wasn't
backported to Node.js 18.

Determine the NSS version from actual Firefox releases, instead of
attempting to parse a wiki page (which is sensitive to formatting
changes and relies on the page being up to date).

The old import assertions proposal has been
renamed to "import attributes" with the follwing major changes:
1. The keyword is now `with` instead of `assert`.
2. Unknown assertions cause an error rather than being ignored,
This commit updates the documentation to encourage folks to use the new
syntax, and add aliases for module customization hooks.

The file is checked into git. Ignoring it causes a very non-obvious way
of breaking tarball builds:
1. Download and unpack tarball
2. Check the sources into git with `git init; git add .; git commit -a`
3. Clean the source tree with `git clean -dfx`
4. Run `./configure && make`
5. Observe build failure because config.h is missing
