gh-76912: Raise OSError from any failure in getpass.getuser() (#29739)
* bpo-32731: Raise OSError from any failure in getpass.getuser()
Previously, if the username was not set in certain environment variables, ImportError escaped on Windows systems, and it was possible for KeyError to escape on other systems if getpwuid() failed.

Remove binding of captured exceptions when not used to reduce the chances of creating cycles (GH-17246)
Capturing exceptions into names can lead to reference cycles though the __traceback__ attribute of the exceptions in some obscure cases that have been reported previously and fixed individually. As these variables are not used anyway, we can remove the binding to reduce the chances of creating reference cycles.

See for example GH-13135

d5aa487cce #21169: fix getpass to use replace error handler on UnicodeEncodeError.
If the input stream encoding couldn't encode one or more of the
non-ascii characters in the prompt, it would fail, throwing a
UnicodeEncodeError. Now if that happens we re-encoding using the
'replace' error handler.

Fixes issue7208 - getpass would still allow the password to be echoed on
Solaris due to not flushing the input buffer.

This change also incorporates some additional getpass implementation
suggestions for security based on an analysis of getpass.c linked to from the
  issue.

This should fix issue2632. A long description of the two competing
problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying
to fix the old one). In short:

buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a
cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv()
  call.

This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being
passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data
returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python
calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the
  previous memory-use bug "fix" did.

It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is
  actually used for.

This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5.

49fd7fa443 Merge p3yk branch with the trunk up to revision 45595. This breaks a fair
number of tests, all because of the codecs/_multibytecodecs issue described
here (it's not a Py3K issue, just something Py3K discovers):
http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2006-April/064051.html

Hye-Shik Chang promised to look for a fix, so no need to fix it here. The
tests that are expected to break are:

test_codecencodings_cn
test_codecencodings_hk
test_codecencodings_jp
test_codecencodings_kr
test_codecencodings_tw
test_codecs
test_multibytecodec

This merge fixes an actual test failure (test_weakref) in this branch,
though, so I believe merging is the right thing to do anyway.
